Is a high fruit diet healthy?

What is a high fruit diet?

Out of all the controversial topics out there, this one really rattles people. Firstly, what is a high fruit diet? A diet that provides you with calories almost entirely from fresh, ripe and in-season fruit. Generally speaking, a fruitarian is a raw foodist who will eat from above the ground, concentrating on the fruit in particular. Is a high fruit diet healthy? Ask me, and I will answer yes, as I have experienced first hand the high energy, great digestion, elimination and elevated mood. Speak to a qualified nutritionist, and get the low down on why it is the ultimate diet for all humans.

By now, most people not living under a rock have heard of veganism or know someone who is vegan. Veganism is often regarded as extream. I have been vegan for 5 years now, and it has never been difficult. Vegans come in all shapes and sizes. Some are a little obsessed with their health like I am. Others enjoy Mexican, Indian, Italian and all sorts of vegan junk food like pizzas, burgers, and fry-ups. Most vegans still maintain better health than most people do., even with some processed food added to their diet.

Is a high fruit diet healthy?

I find this a strange question. Growing up, I was constantly reminded to eat more fruit. I think everyone can agree, fruit is healthy. Some people will have concerns about not eating a “balanced meal” or the sugar spikes from eating a lot of fruit. There are answers to all these questions. I will leave all that up to you to research on www.plantbasednutrition.guru

Personally, at this stage in my life, I am 100% raw but do not consider myself a fruitarian. I add a large amount of mostly organic greens to my high fruit diet, as well as nuts and seeds. Is a high fruit diet healthy? I suppose it also depends on what is added to that diet in terms of minerals and other nutrients that aren’t too plentiful in fruit. I won’t get into an argument about protein or other vital nutrients with a long-term fruitarian. That is one argument I will undoubtedly lose. A great resource is Anne Osborne’s Fruitarianism : Path to Paradise.

I had blood work done about a year ago, after not using any supplementation. At the time of doing bloodwork, I was eating mostly healthy and a mixture of raw and cooked with occasional vegan junk food in between. My protein, iron, D3, and calcium levels were all fine. Only my B12 levels were a bit low, which I later rectified with intermittent supplementation. Most, if not all fruitarians do not supplement and do not suffer from any malnutrition or malabsorption. They are usually found doing an outdoor activity with lots of sunshine. I have been told that walking barefoot in the dirt and eating plenty of organic fruit that is not over washed will supply you with enough vitamin B12.

Simplifying life

Perhaps there are better questions to ask than, Is a high fruit diet healthy? Why is there not more research into the benefits of a fruitarian diet? Speak to any longterm frugivore and they will blow you away with their knowledge of nutrition. Some might say that all that fructose will cause your teeth to rot. This is true, but only if you don’t practice good dental hygiene.

Living a simple life and eating a natural, simple diet is very attractive to someone of a minimalist mindset. I have to admit, I am very keen to take the next step and live off a predominantly fruit-based diet. My personal research has to lead me to believe this is the ideal lifestyle.

Addictions

The controversy around eating healthy versus eating a Standard American Diet [ SAD ] all boils down to addiction. We will defend unhealthy eating habits and look for fault in obviously healthier choices because we are addicted to nutrient deficient, cooked food.

I will discuss addictions in greater depth on a Monkeymind blog in the near future. We all have addictions of some sort. The only way to deal with these dependencies is to first admit they exist.

Staying focused

Once we do the research, we will intuitively know we are meant to live on a high fruit diet. Focus on what is real and beneficial to yourself and your environment. There is no point in wasting energy in arguments about things we have no personal experience in. Don’t knock it till you try it.

Is a high fruit diet healthy? I would say it is, but don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself. Go onto Youtube and listen to numerous testimonials of how peoples’ lives have changed for the better.

Minimalist footwear at its best

Bearfoot is best

There is numerous evidence pointing to barefoot walking as the healthiest for our feet, ankles, knees, and backs. I watch my two sons walking everywhere barefoot and I can’t help but envy them. There is so much more to walking barefoot than we realize. I discuss this in more detail, in my book, Free I Am. We have been conditioned by society to cover our feet in most formal and informal settings. The soles of our feet have become over sensitive and muscles have become week. I was now on a mission to find a shoe that replicates the feeling of barefoot walking. The best minimalist shoe was out there, and I was going to find it.

I have been hunting for a long lasting shoe that will give me support, comfort, and style for a long time. Love the feel of walking barefoot, whenever I get the chance. I have finally found the minimalist shoe that gives me that same feeling of being grounded, but with the protection I need. The part that really astounds me is, how well made these shoes are. Xero Shoes speak of a 5000-mile warranty on the soles, and I can see why they are so confident about this product. I have been using my hanas for a full year now and there is hardly any noticeable wear.

The best minimalist shoe

I did a video on the purchase of my Ipari Hanas a year ago. A year later, and I can honestly say they feel better than when I first got them. We are now in winter, in the Southern Hemisphere, and I’m wearing them nearly every day. The only time I’m not wearing them is indoors and on hot days when I’m looking for an excuse to go properly barefoot. What I have noticed is how much more I can do barefoot since I’ve worn the Hanas. The muscles in my feet have strengthened and my posture has improved.

I have struggled with knee problems for many years and even ended up having a total knee replacement. I can’t explain the science behind it, but the Ipari Hana definitely makes walking a whole lot easier. My only issue since buying the best minimalist shoes is I don’t want to wear any of my other shoes.

The best minimalist shoe
Ipari Hana, the next best thing to walking barefoot

Why you’ll love the Ipari Hana

  • Natural FIT — a wide toe box lets your toes spread and relax. Plus the “XERO-drop” sole (non-elevated heel and low-to-the-ground) allows for proper posture, balance, and agility.
  • Natural FUNCTION — the Hana is flexible enough to let your feet bend, move, and flex the way, well, that feet are supposed to. Plus, they’re so lightweight, you’ll barely know you have them on. A men’s 9 is only 8 ounces each.
  • Natural FEEL — the Hana uses the same 5.5mm FeelTrue® rubber sole from our Z-Trek sandal, so you get great protection while still getting the ground feedback that your feet like. With an optional 2mm insole, the Hana truly lets you Feel The World®.
  • Vegan-friendly materials — the Hana’s upper is canvas, the lining and external accents are microfiber. It washes easily with soap and water.
  • Huarache-inspired design — the heel/instep strap is not only eye-catching but functional.
  • Flexible heel — feel free to step on the heel and wear the Hana as a “slide”

Why is it called “Ipari Hana”?

“Ipari” is the category name we’re using for all of our closed-toe shoes (yes, that means more are coming!). It was inspired by “rarajipari,” the running, ball-kicking game the Tarahumara play… even though it’s an endurance game, the emphasis is on FUN. Then, “Hana” was inspired by the name of the town in Maui, Hawaii that exemplifies the feeling of casual adventure. Plus, “hana” means “craft” in Hawaiian.

Put it together and you get a well-crafted, elegant casual shoe that’s perfect for your next adventure. The best minimalist shoe, that I use everywhere!

Tell the world about them

This is definitely one of the easiest product for me to market and recommend. These shoes tick all the boxes for me, especially the fact that they are vegan-friendly. In my Youtube video, I mention the issues I had with the South Africa post office, so please avoid using them.  Other countries have much more efficient postal services, which would probably work fine. I suggest choosing the most expensive shipping option if you live in an area notorious for delays.

You can grab a pair of Hanas or any of the other styles of Xero Shoes through the vhawker.com website. The best minimalist shoe ever.

Problem free skin

Bad diet, stress, and exposure to harsh elements can play havoc on our skin. Dermatologists have a lengthy list of skin conditions, some even deadly. The problem lies in how these “experts” treat their vulnerable patients.

Inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis are often treated with carcinogenic treatments like psoralen and ultraviolet A radiation (PUVA), methotrexate, ultraviolet B (UVB), and tar. The risk of using these treatments are high and they don’t even offer a cure. There is the help to be found and we can all enjoy problem free skin.

Never give up

Many people suffering from problematic skin, often give up after adjusting diet and living healthy. The two main causes of not seeing results is inadequate nutrition and not giving the body enough time to heal. Some of us have been toxifying our bodies for decades and expect to reverse all that harm in three weeks.

There needs to be a complete mind shift and lifestyle change. For a permanent healthy glow with clear skin, we need to make the necessary adjustments to our daily lives. We must never give up. Healthy and young looking skin is definitely achievable in the right environment.

Save our Trees

What is happening to our trees?

Deforestation is a global problem. The destruction of our oxygen source is taking place all over the planet. The problem is not just in the Amazon rainforest but on every continent. Forests are vanishing in front of our eyes. This is happening in countries that are home to some of the major green initiatives. Environmental ministries either don’t have much say or they have another agenda. Either way, governments have failed our planet miserably. Save our trees!

I recently saw a documentary on Romania, and how illegal logging is leaving the hillsides of virgin forests bare. Greenpeace, Romania reports an average of 26 cases per day, costing the state $10.4m.

The public is assisting authorities in combatting illegal logging. They have managed to seize a significant amount of timber and logging equipment and have made many arrests. There was a recent investigation into the deforestation of the Carpathian mountains, home to some of Europe’s last virgin forest. It shows the involvement of an Austrian logging company and other high profile companies involved in an illegal logging ring.

Save our trees

Tree planting organizations are popping up everywhere. Groups are forming and mobilizing volunteers to plant trees in rural and urban areas. Tree planting festivals and gatherings are becoming a common thing among conscious communities. It is never too late to save our trees. It is up to every one of us to make an effort in saving and replanting trees. We owe it to the next generation.

People living in cities and urban areas can actually make the biggest impact. The consumer dictates how many trees get cut down. It is up to us to vote with our wallets. There are so many ethical products to choose from now. Many merchants have tree planting policies in place. For every purchase made, a certain amount of trees are planted.

Save our trees
Eco Friendly and Indestructible
Keeps water cold all day, and bottle won’t sweat
Keeps hot liquids hot 6-10+ hours

Tree hugging

Tree hugging was something joked about, when activists went to extremes to protect trees from been cut down. People thought it was strange when protestors would tie themselves to an ancient tree, in order to protect it. Unfortunately, most of us waited until the irreversible damage had been done before waking up.

If we are to turn this thing around, then we all need to become pro-active tree huggers. Signing a petition is a start but not nearly enough. We need a complete mind shift in how we live and consume. There is no need to purchase new, inferior quality furniture made from softwood forests that are under threat. There is so much high quality, used furniture available to buy.

Save our Trees

Less is more

Minimalism is no longer just a way out for those who cant afford to furnish their homes. The minimalist movement is spreading among rich and poor, as people are beginning to awaken. Less is more. Used pallets and many other reusable materials are becoming bed bases and dining-room tables in many a wealthy home.

We can change our disturbed consumer culture, one purchase at a time. We can avoid filling the home with stuff that does not serve us or the planet. Let’s focus on products that don’t come at a high cost to the environment. You will find local reclaim, refurbish dealers everywhere. Let’s support them and be part of the solution and not the problem.

Ethical options

There are numerous ethical options available for those who are transitioning into conscious consumers. Buy long-lasting, quality products. Support producers that contribute to positive change. At www.vhawker.com, there exists a virtual mall that houses ethical online retailers that share the same values. Save our trees!

Our values define us.

We want to build a future to be proud of. Let’s align our actions with our values, for they define who we are. At vHawker there is a culture of personal growth and self-improvement. Each of us is striving to be better versions of ourselves. We are living in exciting times and circumstances are forcing us to rethink our lives. There is much to look forward to as we partner with like-minded people and communities.

My intention in writing this blog is to integrate my passion for ethical living with my business. I choose to make a living from what is helpful, rather than harmful to Mother Earth.

I hope this was a worthwhile read. Please check out the links and provide some feedback in the comment section below. Thank you for your time.

There is no excuse for animal abuse

You don’t have to be cruel to rule my world.

We are seeing a huge demand for cruelty-free products, from all over the world. This rapidly growing movement is largely thanks to activism and social media. The last few years have produced awareness of animal exploitation like never before. There is no excuse for animal abuse, thanks to all those who tirelessly fight for animal liberation.

People from all corners of the globe are waking up and demanding ethical alternatives. I long for the day that they declare an international ban on all animal testing. There have been marches in many countries, handing memorandums over to politicians, demanding such a ban.

There is no excuse for animal abuse
active until all cages are empty

There is no excuse for animal abuse, ever

Most of us have no clue as to what animals go through on an ongoing basis. All this just for the financial gain of greedy corporations. Nearly all our toiletries and cosmetics are linked to animal torture. Sometimes the finished product might not be tested on animals but several of its ingredients have or contain animal products.

There is no excuse for animal abuse. There is enough footage of animals been enslaved and tortured their whole lives by evil laboratory staff so people cant plead ignorance any more. This practice must end now!

Always alternatives

Thankfully we are moving forward and there are many cruelty-free options to choose from. Our ethical online mall, www.vhawker.com is bursting at the seams with high quality and stylish options. There are laptop bags, clutch purses, wallets, backpacks and a vast selection of clothing. The cosmetic and toiletry ranges offer something for every taste.

There is no excuse for animal abuse
vegan cork handbag

Medical testing is also under scrutiny now and the pharmaceutical companies are looking at producing non-cruel products. Scientists are developing new ways of testing, without the use of animals. Read this article on PETA’s website. They are starting to pay attention to the cry of the activist, “There is no excuse for animal abuse!”

Organizations like Beauty Without Cruelty and Cruelty Free International endorse non-cruel products. There is loads of information on their websites that will educate and help you make better choices. Check first before you buy.

Staying active

I am unapologetic in my stance against animal exploitation. There can never be enough awareness on the subject of animal suffering until every cage is empty.

I do realize this blog comes across as a bit depressing, however the positive lies in the options we now have. Activism comes in many forms, whether it’s holding a sign or buying a vegan bag. Together we are making a difference.

Special thanks to Anonymous for the Voiceless for the amazing job they are doing.

Teaching English abroad

Tried and Tested

This is one of the most exciting tried and tested ways of earning while you travel. It has never been easier or safer to travel and getting paid to do so. Teaching English abroad is for anyone who loves connecting with people from other cultures and adding value to their lives.  Most of us have heard about the option to travel to exotic destinations while teaching English. This has become very popular in the last decade with more people doing it than ever before.

It is a lot easier to do than you might think. In some instances, a bachelors’ degree might be required in addition to the TEFL qualification. Very often the TEFL certificate will suffice. There are various levels on offer and the premium package will obviously increase your chances of teaching in your preferred country.

Teaching English abroad as a Digital Nomad

There are so many options as an ESL teacher with the correct qualifications. You can choose from countries in South America, Europe, South East Asia and throughout the Far East. Some teachers might prefer teaching online instead of a brick and mortar classroom. This is happening on a massive scale. You could be setting up a class from a beach shack in Bali or even from your own home. The digital nomad culture is exploding across the globe.

Most teachers are based in countries like Vietnam or Thailand. The cost of living is exceptionally low for the excellent quality of life you get in these awesome locations. By choosing the online teaching route you can be based anywhere with a good internet connection. If you a young freelancer or someone wanting to make a full-time career from teaching, TEFL is your answer. Nothing beats the location independent lifestyle.

Teaching English abroad as a young freelancer

Families

The way the world is changing, people are moving around far more frequently. We are seeing a lot of interest from families wanting to travel and teach with their kids, coming along for the adventure. The continual increase in homeschooling or world schooling has made this a reality. Families that already have some teaching experience with their own kids are getting their TEFL certification. Some employers are even offering to pay for flights and accommodation for dependents.

There are amazing benefits for children traveling the world with their parents. Kids discover new places, cultures, and religions first hand. These experiences far outweigh anything they could have learned in a book. In some instances, the private school you are employed by will enroll your child  for free for the duration of your contract.

Gap Year

Teaching English abroad is the perfect opportunity for a school leaver wanting to travel before furthering their studies. Teaching in China during your gap year will give you experience and help towards your university fees.

There is such a demand for serious teachers that they ensure a welcome stay. There are many who have initially signed a one year contract in South East Asia and ended up staying. The low cost of living, friendly people, and beautiful surroundings make it difficult to leave.

Get Started

There are various TEFL courses available, mostly 6-month courses that can be done in much less time. Select the course that suits your needs by going to www.vhawker.com and selecting the education category.

More Reading

Teaching English abroad is just one of many ways of living consciously and discovering a less stressful existence. Check out some of my other blogs on self-improvement and conscious living.

I hope you found this article informative and eventually, life-changing. I wish you lots of fun and all the luck with your new adventure.
